Paralegals Shot To Death At Law Firm In String Of Murders

The suspect in these deaths killed himself as police closed in today.

We have some disturbing news to report out of Arizona, where two paralegals were shot to death at the law firm where they worked in a string of recent killings.

Paralegals Veleria Sharp, 48, and Laura Anderson, 49, of Burt Feldman Grenier, a family law firm, were killed on Friday afternoon when an unknown assailant entered the office and opened fire. Here are some additional details from NBC News:

According to Scottsdale police, one of the women managed to walk to an intersection to seek help despite suffering a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to a hospital where she died. Officers, meanwhile, followed a blood trail back to the office and found the other woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.

Authorities believe that Sharp and Anderson’s deaths are related to the shooting death of Dr. Steven Pitt, a prominent forensic psychiatrist who was killed a day earlier. Police are still evaluating whether the death of Marshall Levine, a life coach who was shot to death in his office on Saturday, is connected to the other killings.

According to Sgt. Ben Hoster, at least three of the victims were specifically targeted, and the police had a suspect in mind, but didn’t release a name, leaving the local legal community to worry. As police SWAT teams attempted to make contact with the suspect this morning at an Extended Stay America hotel, shots were fired, and he was later found in his room, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Laura has worked with us as family for more than ten years,” it said. “Her intellect, passion and friendship has meant more to us than we can even begin to convey. She was more than a coworker, she was a friend, a mother, grandmother, daughter and wife and gave all of herself to her family, her friends and her work.”

The statement continued:

“Veleria was a treasured member of our work family. She brought joy, calmness, warmth and compassion to all that she did. She was a dedicated mother, wife and daughter. She and her family shared a deep passion for music and their faith.”

We here at Above the Law would like to extend our condolences to Veleria Sharp’s and Laura Anderson’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. A GoFundMe account has been set up to raise funds for their grieving families.
